2019 PLANS AND HOPES (Personal, Books, and Music!)

Hello everyone and HAPPY NEW YEAR!!! I honestly can’t believe it’s 2019… I turn 18 this year?! Anywayy I decided to combine all of my beginning-of-the-year type posts into one post because it just worked better like that so let’s begin!

Hey guys! Kind of a lazy post today (I may have fallen asleep for an hour and a half when I was supposed to be writing today’s post), but I hope you like some of these videos as much as I did! I’ve got a good variety, from dance to comedy and even a TED talk…. and stay tuned for Benedict Cumberbatch fixing your biggest issue at Christmas: receiving bad gifts!

Why do we want to go to Hogwarts?

It’s just a school, right? A fictional school, but still a school. So why did so many of us want to get that magic letter and be whisked away from the parents who baked us cakes, gave us clothes and tucked us in to bed to attend Hogwarts? (Not that all parents do those things, but mine certainly did.)

Originally this post was supposed to talk about some books set in schools that I love, but I actually don’t usually love books set in schools, and I certainly don’t love them because they are set in schools, so that post wouldn’t have been very fun to write or read. Hence, I decided to talk about this instead, which is why I am currently typing this whilst waiting for my new textbooks to arrive in the post so I can do my homework and whilst wearing gloves so that my bones don’t freeze and break because my room is freezing and the heating hasn’t kicked in yet.

Anyway, so today is really more of me asking a question than providing an answer. Why did you want that Hogwarts letter?

For me, I think it was a combination of reasons. My mum always joked that I was basically a Hermione, so that was probably a pretty major factor. And who wouldn’t want cool magic?! But really, if I think about it critically and a little bit cynically, I read and loved Harry Potter during a time where I wasn’t having the best time at school, and perhaps more importantly, wasn’t completely happy with who I was. I didn’t every really have a desire to be “like everyone else” and that wouldn’t explain why I wanted to go to Hogwarts into my early teen years, but I did always want to be unique, special, different, as if that would somehow make a more worthy and likeable person. There’s not much more special than going to Hogwarts now is there?!

So why did you want to go to Hogwarts?

Let me know if you want more sort of discussion-type posts like this or maybe more posts about my personal journey through mental health problems and how I’ve become much more understanding and knowledgeable about the type of person I am. I think I might like to do some posts like that, but only if someone was going to be interested in reading them!

Thank you for reading, Keira x.

Hello everyone!

Today was my first day of school, so I thought I would just talk to you a little about how my GCSEs went and what I’m doing now!

So, if you don’t know GCSEs are an exam we take here in the UK at 16 which determines what kind of education we can do from 16 to 19! There are lots of options, but the most popular are probably A-Levels, BTECs, apprenticeships and the IB!

GCSEs are marked out of 9, with 9 being the best (they used to be A*-E or something like that, but it changed recently to 9-1). Anyway, I got my results a couple of weeks ago and I was really happy. A bit in shock, but very happy!

So now I’m doing the IB Diploma Programme, which is an international qualification in which you study six subjects! Usually you do three at higher level and three at standard level, but I’m super indecisive so at the moment I’m doing English Literature, German, Psychology and History at higher level as well as Biology and standard level and the easiest Maths I can possibly do!

So yeah, life update! Let me know if you did GCSEs recently or started a new step in your education and I’ll be sure to update you when I have more news about school or other general life things!! Love, Keira x.
